To achieve a sun-kissed glow without the damaging effects of too much sun exposure, consider self-tanning and bronzers:
{1} Ways to Self-tan: Most tanning salons offer either air-brush spray tan or self-tan spray booths. Many tanning salons offer both options. Air-brushing requires a person to physically spray the client. Misting booths generally are virtually self-operational. Self-tanning sprays, gels, creams and lotions can also be purchased in many stores and online. A healthy glow minus the damage to your skin is definitely a plus!
{2}Skin Test: If a sample is available, you can do a skin test at home to see what kind of color you can achieve. A test can be done by applying a small amount of self-tanner to an area on your skin of your choice. Choose an area that is less noticeable to test on such as the back of your forearm. The color usually will appear within twenty-five minutes to one hour after application.
{3} Sunscreen and Self-tanning: Some self-tanners are formulated with sunscreen, some are not. If the self-tanner has a sunscreen in it as well, it will usually specify somewhere on the packaging.Keep in mind, SPF15 is generally the recommended minimum level of sunscreen for indoors but if you go outdoors for any amount of time, no matter how short the time frame, it is generally recommended to apply a higher than SPF 15 for adequate protection from harmful UV rays. When you go swimming it is recommended that you reapply sunscreen each time you get out of the water.
{4}Bronzing Makeup:Bronzing powders are available to add a healthy glow to the face and decolletage areas. Bronzers in liquid or cream formulas are also sold in many stores and online. They provide immediate color but generally wash off after one use. Self-tanners tend to last longer and generally wash off gradually, after a few showers. Some self-tanners and bronzers also provide a shimmer for an added cosmetic affect. You want to be sure the sunless color is bronzy not orangy. Do your own personal research online and in the stores to determine which formulas appeal to your individual preference.
{5}Camouflaging Cellulite: Wearing a Self-tanner and bronzer can help to camouflage unwanted cellulite. This is a great added benefit to self-tanning because regardless of your size or weight, cellulite can sometimes appear.
{6}Body Contouring and Defining: You can make an area of your body appear more streamlined and defined by adding more self-tanner or bronzer (shading) to that particular area. For example; if you want the look of more cleavage, shade around the decollete area making sure to blend well. If you want your arms to appear slimmer, add more self-tanner or bronzer to them. Similar to facial contouring, wherever you add shade, volume appears to decrease.
BONUS TIP: Exfoliate twice a week with a gentle body exfoliator to ensure a more even sunless tan and to get rid of unwanted dead skin cells that tend to build up on the surface of the skin, causing it to look dull.
