We all lead busy hectic daily lives. It can be difficult to achieve a healthy balance between work family and everything we juggle all day long while trying to maintain our physical health and wellness. As a full-time caregiver I have always tried to care for my loved one while also keeping myself as healthy as possible, which can be very challenging at times. Here are some helpful tips I’ve learned for maintaining a healthier lifestyle while on the go and pressed for time:
{1}Drink Water: If you don’t like your water plain add slices of lemons, limes or cucumber to jazz it up a bit. Drinking water helps to flush the toxins from your body while keeping you hydrated which helps maintain gorgeous skin.
{2}Mediterranean Diet: This diet consists primarily of fruits, salads, nuts, whole grains, legumes and olive oil. Ingredients in this diet are not only excellent for brain health, they promote longevity as well. I’ve discovered that this diet is easy to stick with on the go if you choose a salad or boneless chicken flatbread sandwich versus a slice of pizza or a burger. Fast Food doesn’t necessarily have to be fattening food. Restaurants like Panera Bread offer healthier food choices such as a variety of salads, soups and boneless chicken that you can order quickly for a great and tasty meal on the go.
{3}Keep Moving: If you can’t get to the gym, try to keep moving by walking. A brisk walk is always a good idea ,especially before, after or during a long day at the office. Park a little further away to get those extra steps in for your day.Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk to grab your lunch instead of drive. Think of ways to increase steps and movements during your busy day.
{4}Everything in Moderation: Alcohol consumption in excess generally equates to high caloric intake which can contribute to weight gain. A glass of wine with dinner, A glass of champagne to toast the Holiday; light to moderate alcohol consumption is better for your waistline.
{5}Finding Calmness: Maintaining a busy schedule can be very stressful at times, especially while caring for a loved one. I’ve discovered adopting habits that bring a feeling of calmness can help to reduce stress and put things into perspective. For example: I’m a huge old movie fan. I find taking a break in the evening to watch an old film very relaxing and enjoyable. Take a few moments during your busy day to sit down, relax and enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or hot cocoa alone or with a friend. Simple practices can help bring a sense of serenity to a hectic day.
